“The Work of Plasterer Kenji Matsuki and the World of Sculptor kanji Hasegawa”

Grass grows from the soil, trees grow, and then decay and return to the soil. The circle that repeats in the providence of nature is confined in the work like a box garden.
Plastering and sculpture. Soil and wood.
Plastering and sculpture in Japan have both developed in accordance with the climate with limited resources, and have spun out a history. The techniques and traditions developed over a long period of time in accordance with the cycles of nature are full of the wisdom and ingenuity of our ancestors, which should be reevaluated even today, when sustainability is a major concern.
In this exhibition, we present works of art that incorporate traditional techniques and culture in their backgrounds, but with a modern interpretation, as art that can be used in daily life.

土から草が生え、木が生え、そして朽ちて土にかえる。 自然の摂理の中で繰り返される円環を、箱庭のように作品に閉じ込める。
左官と彫刻。土と木。
日本における左官と彫刻は共に、限られた資源の中で風土に合わせて発展し、 歴史を紡いできました。自然の循環に則し、長い時間をかけて築かれた技術や伝統は、 持続可能性が重要視される今日においても見直されるべき、先人の知恵や工夫に満ちています。
今展では伝統的な技術や文化を背景にもちつつも現代的な解釈を 加えた作品たちを、生活を共にするアートとして提案します。
